Questionnaire-Based Identification and Participation in Lung Cancer Screening in Sweden
Annual screening via low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is recommended for individuals at high risk of lung cancer, but it is often underutilized among underserved populations. Completion of lung cancer screening (LCS) represents the culmination of a complex pathway that begins with accurate ascertainment of tobacco use history. Following this, individuals must undergo determination of eligibility by guidelines that can vary internationally by country and within some countries by insurance status, receive shared decision-making and tobacco treatment counseling, and complete an LDCT scan of the chest. Each of these steps narrows the funnel for patients potentially completing screening, leading to a still-disappointing 24.5% of eligible individuals receiving LCS in the US.
