Pre-operative Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced Breast Cancer: A Narrative Review

Cette revue narrative fait le point sur le rôle et l'impact de la radiothérapie préopératoire dans la prise en charge d'un cancer du sein localement avancé

Locally-advanced breast cancer (LABC) is a clinically challenging form of BC, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and multimodal therapeutic considerations. The role of radiation therapy (RT) in LABC remains a source of debate, with recent interest in the use of radiation in the pre-operative setting. Outcomes of neoadjuvant RT have been encouraging, with potential benefits in both clinical and cosmetic outcomes. Here we present a narrative review of pre-operative RT in LABC, with an emphasis on clinical considerations, the interplay of chemotherapeutic agents, and the role of neoadjuvant RT in breast reconstruction.
