Penile cancer is a rare genital malignancy with an estimated global incidence of 36 068 new cases in 2020.1 In Western Europe and the United States, the age-adjusted incidence of penile cancer is 0.3-2.1 per 100 000.2 Conversely, in countries where circumcision is routine practice due to religious or cultural reasons,3 penile cancer is almost non-existent, whereas areas within South America, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa have the highest prevalence in the world (3-7 per 100 000 men).
