The Long, Slow Road to Lung Cancer Cure
The articles by Toumazis et al and Ganti et al on lung cancer screening in this issue suggest great progress in the battle against the cancer with the highest number of deaths. The study by Toumazis et al provides optimism because of its finding of the economic practicality of lung cancer screening. However, the study by Ganti et al generates concern because it provides evidence of the slow and inconsistent implementation of lung cancer screening. We believe that the 2 articles support population health efforts that can make lung cancer screening as mainstream as breast and colorectal cancer screening and would substantially reduce the mortality burden of lung cancer.
