Association of Observed Perioperative Cell-Free DNA Dynamics With Early Recurrence in Patients With Colon Cancer
Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) is made up of circulating tumor DNA released into the bloodstream after tumor cell necrosis and apoptosis (when tumors outgrow their blood supply) or after manual tumor manipulation at the time of surgery. In this study, we sought to explore the dynamics of cfDNA in the immediate perioperative window (from before an operation to postoperative day 5). We investigated if the perioperative dynamics of cfDNA offered prognostic information for cancer outcomes by exploring the association between perioperative cfDNA dynamics with early recurrence in patients with colon cancer.
