The application of precision medicine to clinical oncology will evolve as the technology that underlies precision medicine advances. Indeed, as seen in the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) policy statement update (on genetic and genomic testing for cancer susceptibility) published in this issue,1 the increase in genetic sequencing capability combined with the decrease in the cost of testing have altered both regulatory policy and clinical practice and have led to this ASCO policy statement update.
