Specific immunotherapies in cancer treatment - Summary
Résumé
The range of anticancer medicines available has recently been transformed by the introduction of new drugs known as specific immunotherapies, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitors. These medicines raise several important issues, notably in relation to research and the identification of patients likely to respond to treatment, the understanding of their toxicities, their appropriate use, the organisation of care, medicines management pathways and the control of healthcare expenditure.
The French National Cancer Institute (INCa) therefore decided to devote its annual thematic report to specific immunotherapies, with particular emphasis on the following treatments:
- immune checkpoint inhibitors: anti-PD-1, anti-PD-L1 and anti-CTLA-4 therapies;
- CAR T-cell therapies.
