The Need for Systematic Reviews in Oncology
Cet article plaide pour l'intérêt des revues systématiques de la littérature, avec ou sans méta-analyses, pour améliorer l'efficacité du processus scientifique en oncologie
Reviews are critical to the theory and practice of oncology. Reviews not only summarize large bodies of information, but also inform medical and public health decision-making and guide policy and research priorities (1–7). Reviews enhance transparency and increase efficiency in the scientific process (8). The purpose of this Commentary is to encourage submissions of systematic reviews (with or without meta-analyses) to the Journal. In addition, I will describe the reasons why systematic reviews are superior to so-called “narrative” reviews, provide guidelines for prospective authors of systematic reviews, and provide guidelines for evaluating the quality of any published review, systematic or not.
