Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death in men and the third most common in women ; the lifetime probabilities of dying from colorectal cancer among men and women are 3.5% and 3.1%, respectively. Although the burden of colorectal cancer varies across Canada, it is estimated that 25 000 Canadians received a diagnosis of colorectal cancer in 2015 (incidence 49 per 100 000 population) and that 9 300 will die from the disease (mortality 17 per 100 000).
