USPSTF Lung Cancer Screening Guidelines and Disparities in Screening Adherence

Cet article examine les disparités concernant l'adhésion au dépistage du cancer du poumon après l'élargissement des critères d'inclusion dans la mise à jour 2021 des recommandations de l'"US Preventive Services Task Force"

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Early detection through low-dose computed tomography considerably reduces mortality. In 2021, the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) updated lung cancer screening (LCS) guidelines, expanding eligibility criteria to include adults aged 50 to 80 years with a smoking history of 20 or more pack-years, compared to the previous criteria of adults aged 55 to 80 years with 30 or more pack-years. This expansion aimed to increase access to early detection by including younger individuals and those with a lighter smoking history. Despite these efforts, screening uptake remains suboptimal, particularly among disadvantaged and marginalized populations.
