Psychiatric disorders in Nordic childhood cancer survivors

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, physical health is obviously threatened, butmental health problems can also evolve. Thanks to electronic administrative registers, which usually include information on an entire population, it is possible to studyrare exposures, such as childhood cancer. One remarkable register-based research programmeto investigate the consequences of childhood cancer is the Socioeconomic Consequencesin Adult Life after Childhood Cancer (SALiCCS) cohort, which combines data from Denmark,Finland, and Sweden to investigate several characteristics in long-term survivors. Although childhood cancer is rare, substantial improvements in treatment and survival have led to a growing populationof childhood cancer survivors, and the combination of population data from three countriesallows researchers to investigate this topic in detail.
